Director’s Message

Higher education grants us access to experience, practice and intellectual growth with the guidance and encouragement of a supportive community of experts.

Tabitha Spence, Executive Director

I am currently a PhD student at the American University in Washington DC. My education as an undergraduate in Geography and Environment at the University of Texas at Austin 2005-2009 was rich and fulfilling among scholars and peers on campus, as well as through my research experience in South Asia. I am thankful to several mentors who worked with me as I navigated the application process, conducted academic research and thesis-writing, gave quality insights on which graduate programs were most suitable for me given my particular interests, and ensured I would be a competitive candidate.

I went on to earn my Masters’ in the Department of Geography and Development at the University of Arizona in sunny Tucson. There too, and in the many years since, I relied on the insights of faculty mentors and other experts who graciously guided me as I continued my academic journey. For many years since completing my MA I have used my writing and research experience to work with students from different countries and diverse backgrounds to hone their research questions, projects and writing skills. In particular, I worked with the Oxford Summer School program for a number of years to help students improve their resumes and prepare admissions applications to the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge. Moreover, I spent 6 years teaching at various institutions in Pakistan, an experience that cemented my belief in the talent and potential of the country’s youth.

Ascend Knowledge is a natural outcome of my journey as a scholar and a teacher. Undergraduate and high school students rarely find any on-campus support to help them gain an edge in today’s admission environment, especially through facilitating research and publication and in crafting competitive admission applications. Members of our team are working to fill this void and to build a growing network of scholarship working to understand and address the most critical issues of our time. We aim to equip students to successfully carry out their particular research project and produce a successful thesis or publication.

Ascend Knowledge offers a range of One-to-One Mentorship programs designed to facilitate practical engagement between our students and experienced Faculty Advisors from our team. Our goal at Ascend Knowledge is to ensure our students are as confident as they are ambitious. I look forward to welcoming you in this exciting journey of research and academic learning.
