Tabitha Spence, Executive Director

Tabitha Spence is a doctoral researcher in anthropology at American University, Washington DC. She earned her BA in geography from the University of Texas at Austin in 2009 and her MA in geography from University of Arizona in 2011 focusing on water and climate politics. Her current work is on infrastructures of the War of Terror. 

Dr. Ammar Ali Jan, Managing Director

Dr. Ammar Ali Jan is a historian and social activist. He received his Masters in social sciences from the University of Chicago in 2011, and his PhD in history from the University of Cambridge in 2018. He has taught political science, sociology and history at a number of universities and popular education platforms.

Dr. Nousheen Zaidi

Dr. Nousheen Zaidi is a cancer biologist. After completing her doctoral work at Eberhard Karls University in 2008, Dr Zaidi gained expertise in tumor metabolism and cancer therapeutics at Einstein College of Medicine in New York City and the Drug Discovery Group, Oncology, Johnson & Johnson in Belgium. She is currently Director of the Cancer Research Centre at the University of the Punjab. Dr Zaidi engages youth in community-based research, skills-building and popular education at the Action Research Collective. She is a Georg Forster Fellow at Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung, Germany.

Dr. Ali Usman Qasmi

Dr. Ali Usman Qasmi is an Associate Professor (History) at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS). He received his PhD from the South Asia Institute of Heidelberg University in March 2009. He has also taught as an external faculty fellow at University of Stanford and the University of Pennsylvania. 

Dr. Ayyaz Mallick

Dr. Ayyaz Mallick is a human geographer engaged in the interdisciplinary study of class, state and urban space. He completed his Bachelors from the University of Oxford and his PhD from York University. He is currently an Assistant Professor at the University of Liverpool.


Dr. Ameem Lutfi

Dr. Ameem Lutfi is a historical-anthropologist. After completing his PhD in cultural anthropology at Duke University in North Carolina (USA), he was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Oriental Institute at the Czech Academy of Sciences, and then at the Middle East Institute, National University of Singapore.  Dr Lutfi currently is Assistant Professor at the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at the Lahore University of Management Sciences. He is also the Co-founder of the Action Research Collective.

Dr. Kamran Asdar Ali

Dr. Kamran Asdar Ali is Professor of Anthropology, Middle East Studies and Asian Studies. He served as the Director of the South Asia Institute at the University of Texas, Austin (2011-2017). He was also the Dean of Humanities and Social Sciences at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (2017-2020). He completed his PhD in anthropology from Johns Hopkins University. 

Dr. Tayyaba Jiwani

  Dr. Tayyaba Jiwani is a neuroscientist at Exeter University. She completed her PhD in Neurosciences from the University of Toronto. She is a public health advocate and has worked extensively on the intersection of science and society. She is also the founder and editor of Jamhoor magazine.

Dr. Sarah Humayun

Dr. Sarah Humayun is Assistant Professor at the Shaikh Ahmad Hassan School of Law at LUMS. She has a PhD in English Literature from the University of Edinburgh. Her areas of academic interest are literature and the law, interdisciplinary humanities, modernism, and cultural criticism. Before joining LUMS, Dr. Humayun was Assistant Professor and co-director of the Arzu Program in Languages and Literature at Habib University in Karachi, as well as an Assistant Professor of English Literature at the University of Punjab in Lahore.


Dr. Fahd Ali

Dr. Fahd Ali did his PhD in Economics from The New School for Social Research in New York City. He also has an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology, and two Masters in Economics from Lahore University of Management Sciences and University of Utah respectively. His research interests lie in macroeconomics and economic history, with political economy as a theme common to both. He is currently an Assistant Professor at the Lahore University of Management Sciences. 

Dr. Muhammad Ali Jan

Dr. Muhammad Ali Jan completed his PhD in International Development from the Department of International Development, University of Oxford, in 2017. Dr Jan was a postdoctoral fellow in South Asian Studies at Wolfson College, University of Oxford. He also taught comparative political economy of South Asia at Contemporary South Asian Studies Programme at the Oxford School of Global and Area Studies. Dr Jan is currently an Assistant Professor at the Information Technology University in Lahore.

Dr. Ghazal Farrukhi

Dr. Ghazal Farrukhi is an anthropologist focusing on questions of citizenship, secularism and sexuality in South Asia. She holds a PhD in Cultural Anthropology from Johns Hopkins University (2021), MA from the University of Chicago (2012), and BA from LUMS (2011). She recently competed a Visiting Fellow position at Harvard University. She is currently an Assistant Professor at the Lahore University of Management Sciences.
